I’m Jo, an artist & photographer based in Greater London, UK.
After many years at the front of a rock or metal concert shooting live bands or walking the streets snapping candid imagery, I've now shifted my focus to creative portrait photography and watercolour/ink painting.
Pigments & Pixels
Few things excite me more than compelling and emotive imagery, especially a riveting portrait or a moody landscape rich in atmosphere. I share my awe of nature through semi-abstract landscape scenes, created through playfully combining pigment with large washes of water. I indulge my interest in the human condition through portraits as I believe they are a form of storytelling about people, by either creating a fictional narrative or, conversely, delivering truth about a person. Through portraiture, a photographer asks questions about their subject, for example: who are you really? What have you experienced? Where are you headed? What or who do you hope to become?
Inspiration
My own short travels, mother nature, literature, my love of music as well as the everyday lived human experience are all constant inspirations. Coming from an acting background, being the daughter of a fine artist, and having forged many friendships in the music industry I have always been surrounded by inspiring creativity.
The Vision
My hope is to tell compelling stories through portraiture, show my reverence for nature through art, share my personal expression and create imagery that ideally evokes an emotional response in the viewer.
I am also always interested in discussing what it means to be a person walking a creative path in this world today and the mindset work artists do in order to progress on their journey, so I hope to connect with more creative souls through my work and ongoing conversation.
Along with numerous other creative interests, my photography and art are more than my "work" but a precious outlet for creative self-expression. It is also an opportunity to inspire an appreciation for nature, cultivate empathy for the human experience and connect with other creative souls.
